About The CFOT Course:

FOA stands for Fibre Optics Association a corporation based in the United States of America, set up to support the industry in the Americas, and now has global coverage. The FOA is an international non-profit educational organisation that is chartered to promote professionalism in fibre optics through education, certification and standards.

The FOA has grown so much that it is now involved in numerous activities to educate the world about fibre optics and train the workers who design, build and operate the world's fibre optic networks.

The Certified Fibre Optic Technician (FOA CFOT)  course provides delegates with not only the cabling aspect of networks but arms them with the skills to install fibre optics to the American TIA standards, troubleshoot and maintain a fibre optic network. For someone who wants to do more.

The FOA CFOT is recognised across the Americas, Middle East, Africa and many other locations, it trains technicians to a basic standard and then allows the individuals to become specialists in their own area of expertise like FTTx, Data Centres, Splicing, Testing and and many others.

Please remember that if you need a ECS/EUSR you will need to complete the City & Guilds fibre optic course as the CFOT is not recognised under the CSCS scheme.

On completion of the course you will be able install, test and maintain fibre optic network cabling. This includes the following key skills:

  • Fusion splicing external enclosures

  • Fusion splicing patch panels and optical distribution frames (ODF)

  • OTDR Testing

  • Connectors

  • Splitters

  • Blown Fibre

  • Identify fibre optic cables

  • And much more.

You will learn the correct procedures of installation and testing of fibre network installation and carry out network testing using specialist test equipment including OTDR’s, insertion loss testing and much more.

Paul Forster is an FOA and FIA certified trainer at TNS and holds various FOA qualifications as well as many other vocational fibre optic and copper qualifications.
