This unit includes unit 101 communications principles it is also concerned with the installation, termination, fusion splicing, and testing of fibre optic cabling, it covers all aspects of external enclosure, OTDR testing, Insertion Loss measurements link loss budgets. As single mode is traditionally used within telecommunication networks by service operators, it is also used for access networks, metropolitan networks, long haul networks, systems like SDH/PDH, CWDM/DWDM, Metro Ethernet, Motorway Networks, CCTV, Scada, Mobile network backhauls.

Outcome 1: Work safely with optical fibres in an external environment
Outcome 2: Follow recommended installation procedures in accordance to industry standards
Outcome 3: Prepare fibre optic cable for fibre splicing
Outcome 4: Joint fibre optic cables by splicing
Outcome 5: Terminate fibre optic cables by splicing on pre-terminated pigtails
Outcome 6: Test fibre optic links in accordance to industry standards

During the course you will be assessed by industry approved trainers, on completion you will be required to sit, an on line examination of around 50 multiple choice questions then you will be awarded C&G 3667-02 ful certificate and Unit 3 certificate, formerly C&G3666 .
