When it comes to network testing, we go the extra mile to ensure you're proficient. We teach you how to set up OTDRs correctly, emphasise the importance of understanding settings, diagnosing and rectifying faults, and completing Tier 1 and Tier 2 testing using real labs and equipment, not just simulated software.

The ongoing rollout of fiber broadband is vital, yet there's a concern about inadequately trained installers lacking vocational awards and relying on questionable "accredited" status. This issue extends to the data communications sector, where individuals attending brief courses may end up performing complex installations without proper understanding, leaving businesses in challenging situations when things go wrong.

Unlike regulated industries such as Gas or Electric, the fiber optics and data communications industry lacks strict oversight. This gap in regulation leads to situations where electricians, after attending short manufacturer courses, believe they are fully qualified to handle fiber optic installations or data cabling inside buildings.

Paul Forster, the owner and managing director of Total Network Solutions (Europe) Ltd, commands respect in the industry, thanks to his distinguished career that began in the armed forces at the age of 16 as a communications specialist. After 13 years of service, he transitioned into the telecommunications sector in 1997 and has since been a stalwart in telecommunications and data communications. His expertise lies in fiber optic installation, testing, commissioning of networks such as PON, and Access Networks crucial for fiber deployments. He is well-versed in transmission services like DWDM & CWDM.

Currently, Paul Forster holds a prominent position on the Fibre Optic Industry (FIA) council, which oversees technical standards and training in the industry. As an FIA certified trainer, he has demonstrated his extensive knowledge and experience, meeting the FIA's stringent standards for accreditation. Beyond training, Paul also serves as a consultant to organisations involved in fiber network deployments, ensuring adherence to industry standards in telecommunications builds, including telecom civil engineering and fiber deployments. His expertise extends to the data communications industry, making him a valuable asset due to his comprehensive knowledge base.

All our trainers are equipped with valid vocational awards in teaching and assessing. Our quality team holds valid internal quality assurance credentials for assessing, ensuring the highest standards of training delivery. Prior to becoming trainers, our instructors must have a minimum of five years of field experience, supported by vocational qualifications. We prioritise keeping our trainers updated with the latest training methodologies and field experiences to maintain their expertise.
